School of Energy Materials and Chemical Engineering was founded in 1980. It offers the first-level discipline Master program of Materials Science and Engineering, professional Master program of Materials and Chemical Engineering, and four undergraduate programs of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Inorganic Non-metallic Materials Engineering, Powder Material Science and Engineering, and Energy Chemical Engineering.
Certified by the China Engineering Education Accreditation in 2018, Chemical Engineering and Technology is a “Program with Distinctive Features at the National Level”, “National Excellent Engineer Training Program”, an application-oriented undergraduate demonstration program of Anhui Province, as well as a pilot program of comprehensive reform in Anhui Province. Powder Material Science and Engineering and Inorganic Non-metallic Materials Engineering are the outstanding engineer training programs of Anhui Province.
Currently, the School boasts 18 professors, 20 associate professors, 5 visiting professors from Germany and South Korea, and more than 30 part-time teachers from enterprises and research institutes. In particular, 47 full-time teachers hold Doctoral degree. Among the faculty members, 2 are winners of May Day Labor Medal, 1 is entitled “National Excellent Teacher”, 2 “Anhui Provincial Outstanding Teacher”, 1 “Anhui Provincial Outstanding Young Teacher”, and 1 “Anhui Provincial Outstanding Youth”. A dozen of teachers have been to Germany, the United States, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and South Korea for further study.
Covering an area of over 20,000 square meters, the School’s labs have the instrument and equipment with the total value of more than 47 million yuan. It has Laboratory of Powder and Energy Materials, Key Laboratory of Membrane Materials and Membrane Process, Collaborative Innovation Center for Additive Manufacturing, Research and Development Center for Advanced Functional Coating Additives, Research and development center for New Energy Materials and System, Huaqi-HFU Functional Small Molecule Research and Development Center, Home of Chemical Engineers, Engineering Training Center and 10 innovation and entrepreneurship laboratories, which offer favorable conditions for teachers and students’ study and research.
Implementing the University’s orientation of “Locality, Application and Internationalization”, the School actively explores the teaching reform of application-oriented and student-centered cultivation mode. It has built a number of bases together with large enterprises to carry out industry-university-research cooperation. It has also established international cooperation with colleges and universities in Germany, the United Kingdom, and South Korea, so that its outstanding students are endowed with the opportunity to carry further study there.
In recent 3 years, the School has directed 12 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 32 provincial and ministerial projects, more than 60 horizontal scientific research projects, published more than 200 academic papers, and authorized 72 invention patents. It has won 1 Second Prize of Anhui Science and Technology Award, 5 Anhui Science and Technology Progress Awards, and 1 Anhui Youth Science and Technology Award.
In the past 5 years, the students have won 357 innovation and entrepreneurship training programs, 54 national awards, and 58 provincial awards in various competitions, namely, the Challenge Cup, “College Students’ Internet+ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition”, National Chemical Design Competition, National Chemical Engineering Principle Experiment Competition and Anhui Chemistry Competition for College Students.
